Coaching is an industry that not a lot of people fully understand. A lot of people like the idea of hiring a coach, and it's becoming more and more popular. There are all kinds of coaches for that matter. When it comes to coaching, no matter what kind of coach, but especially today, of course, talking about business coaching, there are always these expectations going in. That's why when my clients hire me, I ask them very early in the process about their expectations when working with me. We have all of these expectations when we hire a coach, but some of them are unrealistic. Some of them are based on some common myths. There are some beliefs out there about working with coaches that are just flat out wrong.

 

So I've got 3 today for you that I wanna share. The first myth is that coaches have all the answers. Some people hire a coach hoping they will tell you step by step what to do. They hope that the coach is gonna make the hard decisions for them. They hope that all you have to do is exactly what your coach says to do. But that's based on this belief that there is one right way to do something. But truthfully, there's no one way that works. There are a 1000000 ways that can work.

 

And then on top of that, everyone has a different definition of success. How could there be one way that would work if there are an unlimited number of ways to describe success. Coaching isn't at all about having the answers. It's about asking the right questions. So if you're hiring a coach, hoping that they have the answers, you're gonna be very disappointed. If you go into the process hoping that you will get answers, that's fine. You are gonna get answers, but those answers are already within you. You are the one who will make decisions.

 

You are the one who will uncover the answers that you need, all through them asking the right questions. The second myth is that the journey will be easy with a coach. No, girl, if you want the easy way out, do not hire me. I'm here to push you. I'm here to challenge you. I'm here to get you out of your comfort zone, and change is not easy. Change is hard. So if you think hiring a coach is going to be the easy way, that all of a sudden everything is just magical.

 

Just paying the coach is all you need to do, and that transaction alone it's going to solve everything. That's not gonna happen. Now we will solve problems together, but don't mistake that with your business being problem free, that's very different. We will solve problems, but your business will not be problem free. In fact, the benefit of having a coach is to have support while things are tough, when the tough times come up. I'm not here to make sure that your journey in entrepreneurship is without any challenge, trouble, difficulty, pain. If I could do that, I certainly would, but that's impossible. What I'm here for is to support you during those times.

 

That's when you need me the most. That's why I'm here. That's what coaches are for. So you then have to talk about the struggles. You can't keep them to yourself. You can't complain about things being hard and, you know, things aren't working out, you know, complaining to your biz bestie, how tough things are and that your coach isn't really helping. Talk to your coach. Tell your coach what's going on.

 

Don't hide things. Don't keep them in. You have to ask for help. If you don't ask for help when things are hard, that's on you. Coaches can't help if they don't know. So, no, the journey will not be easy with a coach. In fact, it's gonna be harder in the sense that they're gonna push you. And then in the times that they can't prevent, that we can't prevent, we'll be there to support you.

 

That's what we're there for. We're not there to make things easy. We're there to challenge you and to be there to support you. The 3rd myth is that coaches are responsible for your results. Now let me say this. Working with a coach will often very naturally lead to improved performance, improved productivity, improved results. Yes, you will meet or exceed your goals when you work with a coach, most likely. But simply hiring a coach isn't what gets you results.

 

They don't get the results for you. You have to show up. You have to make decisions. You have to take action. You have to do the work. You have to believe. Believe in yourself. Believe that it's possible.

 

Trust the process. You have to ask for help. You have to keep going even when things are tough. You have to get results. Coaches can't do it for you. Yes. I will hold you accountable. I will provide decision support.

 

I'm gonna call you out on your BS. I'm gonna challenge you to step up. I'm gonna tell you the truth even when it hurts. I'm gonna save you from some mistakes and I'm gonna support you through others. I'm gonna absolutely celebrate with you when you do get those results. And I'm gonna be grateful that I was a part of the journey, but never will I ever take full credit for your results. Your results are on you. I can't get the results for you.

 

Now with all of that said, working with a coach can be a catalyst, a major catalyst for your business growth. It can also be a complete waste of your time and money, but which it is is entirely up to you. Don't hire a coach looking for all of the answers. An easy journey, guaranteed results. You're gonna be disappointed. Instead, expect a great coach to ask the right questions, to challenge you, and to hold space for you to get better results than ever before. When you go into a coaching relationship with the right expectations, what's really interesting is that your results will be far greater. Your results are unlimited in potential when you take responsibility, when you look inside yourself for the answers, and when you decide that you're gonna keep going no matter what and expect that there will be tough times and just know that you're gonna get through it.
