Hey. Hey. And welcome back to the podcast. Today, let's talk about social media and, specifically, social media content. I hear from a lot of my clients and a lot of you all that coming up with content can be difficult. Some of you struggle with figuring out what to say and coming up with something new and staying consistent on all of your social media platforms. And from time to time, I'm not consistent either, so I'm not perfect. But what I will say is that I've always been the most consistent when I have followed this system.
When I veer off course from this system that I'm about to share with you today, that's when things fall by the wayside. So if you are looking For a simple system to keep content flowing on all of your primary channels, then let's chat. First of all, I say primary channels because you need to know where your audience is and focus in on those 1 or 2 channels. I always say that it's better to focus on 1 channel and do it really well than to half ass a bunch of different social networks. Right? So if you're just getting started, choose 1 and do it well. It's not going to be easy to do everything from the beginning. Instead, pick 1 at a time, Get a system running for that 1 platform and then layer on top of it. It will get easier and easier, and I'll share why when we talk about the 4th type of content.
Speaker A:
Now there are 4 types of content that I'm gonna share that I recommend that you post every week. And when you use these 4 types of content, you're gonna see just how simple it can be to maximize the impact you have on social media without taking too much time. So Are you ready to dive in? Let's talk about those 4 types of content to post each week. The first type of content That you need to be sharing each week is newly published content from other platforms. So for this step, you need to take an audit of any consistent content that you're creating elsewhere. You may or may not have this step, but I do recommend that you create at least 1 place that you're creating ongoing content. Now here are some examples. This could be a weekly Facebook Live or it could be a series of prerecorded videos that you share consistently.
Maybe it's written blog posts or maybe it's podcast episodes. Anything new that's published on another platform, form, including guest content, by the way. If you do guest interviews or write guest blog posts, you wanna share that with your audience. You want to let them know that you have new content that they need to check out. There's no reason for you to create the new content if you're not going to get the word out. So each and every week, make sure that you are spreading the word about anything new that you're creating. And I do recommend that you create some consistent core content for your marketing. The 2nd type of content to to share On social media is recurring content.
Now this content is some of my favorite, and that's because This really allows me to maximize my time. It allows me to keep content out there no matter how busy I am. It allows me to stretch the reach of existing content, and it takes no time after the initial setup. So here's what recurring content looks like. Using a platform that allows posts to continue to be shared, Platforms like Smarter Queue or MeetEdgar or RecurPost are great for this. And the types of content that I set up to be recurring content are things like content archives. So just like in the 1st type of content, there's newly published content. I stretch that reach by not sharing a blog post or a new podcast Episode only once but adding it to a queue of archives for all of my blogs and then another for all of my podcast episodes and share those on repeat.
So I continue to share old episodes or old blog posts that maybe were published a while ago, but still deliver just as much value today as they did then. And I keep that content fresh, keep sending people to it. It's incredible. Other types of content that you can set up on a recurring basis are things like engaging questions or popular quotes. And this is perfect for something like a Facebook group. Maybe you want to keep some engaging questions going in your group. I currently have about 70 different questions that are populated into a content library, all specifically Engaging questions. They're fun, easy to answer questions to prompt my audience to respond.
And in my group, I set it up so that there is 1 question that's shared each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. And I specify a certain time, and it automatically runs through each of those questions in order and post them. And the great thing is because I'm sharing Three questions per week, and I have right at 70 questions. No question repeats until after, like, 23 weeks. So, currently, most of the questions are only shared about twice a year in my group. So, yes, they repeat, but there's enough content that it Spreads out, and it doesn't feel like the same question is happening every single week or month. There's enough variety there that it can last for a long time, and I don't have to touch it. Now you can use this same thing for things like sharing testimonials or sharing quotes, whether they're quotes from other people or quotes that you've said.
Whatever you like, you can brainstorm and come up with all kinds of content categories that you might want to populate ahead of time with a variety of types of posts and then just keep those going. So that's the 2nd type of content, recurring content. The 3rd type of content is something that I refer to as themed content. This is where each week I look at what I am promoting, whether free or paid. And based on whatever the topic is related to what I'm promoting. I come up with a theme. Then once I've chosen that theme, I come up with related content. So some examples of things that I've had in the past are things like visibility, freedom, commitment, sales, leadership, potential, and there are tons more.
Each and every week, I come up with a new theme. And whatever the theme is for the week, I create content around that. Now it doesn't matter whether they're quotes or questions or a story of where I've personally dealt with whatever that topic is. Right? It might be a testimonial from a client around their visibility. It doesn't matter. Whatever the theme is, I pull content and I fill in the blanks. And I make sure that I have a good mix of content that is providing value and a good mix of content that is actually asking for someone to take Includes a call to action. It's asking for the sale or it's asking for an opt in, whatever it may be.
It's really easy to include that call to action Whenever your theme is related to the call to action and your content is also aligned with that theme, It makes it really seamless. It's a great process. It's also easier to come up with content about 1 specific theme than it is to come up with content about anything and everything you could possibly talk about. When you put a little boundary or a little Structure around your theme. All of a sudden, you have a ton of ideas because you've given some definition to it. So that's the 3rd type of content, themed content. The 4th type of content is repurposed content. Now You can use repurposed content to either stretch the reach of your newly published content from type 1 or to fill in the gaps with your theme content.
So let's say that you have a brand new blog post that's published this week. You might share that blog post on Facebook or in your Instagram feed, But you might also repurpose it in your Instagram stories by breaking it down into let's say there are 3 tips included in the blog post. You could do a story with each frame being one of the tips, or perhaps you stretch it out. And each day, you go in-depth on one of the tips, You repurpose that content in a completely different way. So this is different than just sharing a link to the blog post. You actually are pulling pieces of it. Right? You might pull quotes from it to share. If your blog post is on visibility and Your theme for the week is visibility, then why not pull some quotes from that to share throughout the week? Right? You may not actually link back to the content at all.
You're just pulling content from it to share. This is something great to do for Facebook lives. In fact, here's exactly what I do with my Facebook lives. Every time I go live in my Facebook group, my team documents the link of that post in a spreadsheet, and then we Schedule tasks to repurpose each and every Facebook Live into a blog post. Then once that blog post goes live, oftentimes, it could be months later, but it's scheduled in advance very strategically and intentionally so we're getting the most out of the content. We'll schedule that blog post. It will go live, and then we'll repurpose the content from the blog post into social posts. That allows you to really stretch things out and get the most bang for your buck without having to create brand new content.
Now if you have a team, they can do so much of this for you, and I I encourage you to train them to do it for you so that you're creating whatever the original core content is, and then they take that and repurpose it for other platforms. So, again, I may be in charge of creating the core content of my Facebook lives, But my team can turn that into blog post and turn that into social content or even repurpose it into emails or whatever it may be. Right? Same thing for my podcast episodes. Oftentimes, we'll take some of the content from that and turn it into an email, And we may or may not link back to that episode to drive traffic, but the content itself is repurposed across other platforms. So there is a ton that you can do to really stretch your content by including these 4 types. If you have consistent core content, then each and every week, you want to share that newly published content. You want to share occurring content so that no matter what happens in your business, no matter how busy you are, you still have something going out, something that you can count on so that your social media channels don't start to look like a ghost town. 3rd, you want to create themed content.
Of course, not just anything, but a theme related and aligned to whatever you're selling That makes it easy to sell. And then number 4, repurposed content. Continue to maximize your content by pulling pieces and repurposing it for other platforms. This is where you can begin to easily layer on other channels outside of your primary channels by simply repurposing some of your content. You're able to stretch without creating a ton of new content and reach more people on other platforms without doubling or tripling your time. Okay. These are the Four types of content that I share on social media each week. And when all of these types of content are working together, I can create a really simple system to stay consistent, to reach more people, to sell easily, and to get the most impact out of the content that you've already created.
One last tip on this. I like to sit down and, for each channel, create a plan for what types of posts I want to go out win. That means that if it's recurring content, I already know that every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, there's going to be an engaging question. Also, I'm gonna want to share some content that's themed content based on whatever I'm promoting so that people actually know about it. And so I might schedule some posts on the topic each weekday promoting whatever it is that I'm offering that week. I also note that on Wednesday afternoons, we welcome new members to our Facebook group. On Tuesdays, we share the brand new podcast. On Wednesdays, we share the brand new blog post, etcetera, etcetera.
And we have spaces for each type of content so that we know what's going out when and make sure that it's not all scheduled for the same day, but there's consistently the same types of content going out at the same time each week. This makes it easy for us to plan. It makes it easy for us to decide or determine what type of content we need when it comes to themed or repurposed content in order to fill in those gaps. So when we know our newly published content schedule, we can plan around it. And then we set the recurring content up as well, and then we look for the gaps. We look for where we need to fill in the gaps, and that's where we fill in the themed content. That's the value content. Each and every day, we come up with promotional content.
And if we need to repurpose any content, then we can do that on channels where we might need to fill in the gaps, like Instagram stories or something like that. I hope that that helps and gives you a really big picture of the system that I use social media content, there are a lot of moving parts and pieces, but it truly is very simple once you set it up. With that said, your social media content is really only 1 piece of the content marketing puzzle. And on top of that, it's really tempting to think of content as a free marketing strategy, but it isn't. It takes your time. And if you're going to invest anything, including your time, in fact, especially your time, you need to see a return on your investment.
